Tenerife South is the 2nd busiest of all the Canary Island airports (after Gran Canaria). It regularly handles over 11 million customers. Over 40 airlines operate out of it including various arms of the TUI Group, Ryanair and EasyJet.

Opened in 1978 by Queen Sofia of Spain, the airport was built following observations by the local authorities that the Northern airport did not meet technical requirements. Since then it has remained a popular destination for leisure and professional trips and sees visitors from all over Europe.

British destinations currently make up 7 of the top 10 routes used by this airport with Manchester flights accounting for 810,000 passengers. London Gatwick comes in second with just over 700,000.
