Athens International Airport is the largest airport in Greece and is the main base for Aegean Airlines. At present it is the 15th busiest airport in Europe and the busiest in all of the Balkans. Opened in 2001 it has handled up to 25million passengers per year. Covid has dented those numbers slightly but they are on the way up. By May 2022, over 6 million passengers had used the airport.

The majority of flights out of the airport fly domestically yet of the international flights, Gatwick, Heathrow, and Stanstead carry the most passengers.

With flights that carry people to the far-east, middle-east and Europe as well as some into the USA.

The airport houses two terminals and with redevelopment plans in motion, it is hoped that annual passenger numbers will hit 50 million.
